NiSi ATHENA PRIME Rewind is a full-frame cinema lens kit designed for filmmakers who want the flexibility to move between vintage-inspired character and modern optical clarity within one professional lens system. The Rewind set gives cinematographers a creative “dial” through aperture control, allowing the look to shift naturally from soft, atmospheric and expressive to clean, sharp and modern.
Wide open at T1.9, the ATHENA PRIME Rewind lenses produce a warm vintage character with enhanced aberrations, softer resolution, increased blur and halo effects around highlights. As the lenses are stopped down, these characteristics gradually reduce. Around T2.8, the image reaches a balanced sweet spot between stylisation and sharpness, while by T5.6 to T8 the lenses behave much closer to a modern, clinically clean cinema lens. This makes the Rewind kit ideal for productions that need both character and precision without changing lens systems.
The Rewind lenses produce distinctive bubble bokeh at wider apertures, with bright-edged out-of-focus highlights and darker centres, especially on the 35mm and 50mm lenses. Flare intensity is also increased compared to the standard ATHENA PRIME range, creating warm, expressive flares that add atmosphere to backlit scenes, practical lighting and direct light sources. Despite the vintage-inspired rendering, the lenses maintain strong colour consistency with the standard ATHENA PRIME lenses, making them easy to intercut on set and in post-production.
The kit features matched weight and physical dimensions across the lens set, making lens changes fast and convenient when working with gimbals, rigs and matte boxes. Each lens offers full-frame coverage with a 46mm image circle, minimal focus breathing, a 300-degree focus rotation, fluorescent focal scales for low-light focus pulling, and a rear filter mount for gel and creative filter use. The Rewind set delivers expressive optical character while keeping professional handling, reliable colour and production-ready build quality.
