Kupo Kupole Pole Cat – Spring-Loaded Support Pole, 159–270cm

A pole cat: a two-section aluminium pole that tensions itself between floor and ceiling, or between two walls, to give you a rigging point where there is nothing to clamp to. A spring locking system does the work — flip the handle and it locks. No tools, no fixings, nothing drilled.

It extends from 159cm to 270cm and stands on a footprint only two inches across, so it costs almost no floor space. Use it for collapsible background support, hanging lights and accessories, or shelving; a pair will carry a crossbar for a full backdrop system. Setup takes seconds and it comes down just as fast.

Before loading: check that both the ceiling and floor, or both walls, are solid enough to take the pressure. Check the pole is still tight from time to time, and always after adding or changing what is hanging on it.

Kupo publish these load limits, measured on a rigid floor and ceiling with the rubber pad fitted. Load capacity falls as the weight moves away from the pole:

• Single pole, floor to ceiling — 24kg at 0.5m from the pole, 12kg at 1m
• Two poles with a 2m crossbar — 20kg at the centre
• Wall to wall with a crossbar — 15kg at the centre
