Kupo 146M Steel Baby Boom Stand – Light-Duty Boom

A baby light stand that converts into a boom. Run the second column right out and press the lever, and the stand becomes a two-section boom arm adjustable from 1.11m to 1.91m.

As a stand it reaches 3.93m on three risers and carries 12kg. As a boom it takes 5kg out on the end with a counterweight fitted. An empty sandbag with 6kg capacity comes in the box, and Kupo recommend using it whenever the boom is extended.

The stand top is a 16mm (5/8") baby pin welded solidly to the column rather than pinned in — that weld is the difference between this steel version and the aluminium 191. It takes lighting fixtures, softboxes and small video or sound gear directly. Two cable clips are included, for tube from 18 to 26mm.

One leg adjusts independently of the other two, so the stand stands square on stairs, a slope or rough ground.

Rigging the boom: line the boom arm up over one of the stand legs and fit the counterweight. Keeping the load above a leg rather than between two of them is what stops a boomed stand going over.
