We have a no-nonsense approach. If a product breaks due to a manufacturer defect, we will replace it without asking any questions. If we have any reason to believe that the product was put through unreasonably heavy usage, we will have to follow the manufacturer's standard warranty procedure.

Find more info on proper care and use for each brand below.

NiSi Care & Use

F-stop Care & Use

The manufacturer offers a 10-year limited warranty on all products and we extend that warranty to our customers. Please read the below very carefully, so you understand your position when something breaks or doesn’t work ideally anymore.

It is critical to understand that this warranty only applies to factory faults and not to standard wear and tear. Tripods are subject to a lot of gray areas in this regard as tripods used outdoors, particularly in sand and sea water, are subjected to extreme wear and tear. We will e.g. replace the affected part of your tripod if a carbon tube snaps or cracks without much pressure applied to it or if the apex breaks. We will not replace your tripod or the affected part if e.g. a joint locks up due to sand or salt build up or if a hinge becomes corroded or stiff/floppy and unserviceable due to corrosion or salt build up.

In sum, if we see that you took good care of your tripod and something went wrong, we will go out of our way to fix or replace it for you. If we see that you dragged it through the mud (literally or metaphorically), then we are unlikely to fix/replace it for you. How you handle your tripod and take care of it, is all the difference between 3- or 20 years of service.

The best of tripods will not last longer than 2/3 years if used regularly in the sea, INCORRECTLY, and never serviced. Always make sure to extend the lowest leg section first, so you keep the joints out of the water/sand. Always rinse with freshwater after use in the sea, wipe down with a wet cloth, leave extended to dry and ENSURE YOU KEEP THE HEAD AND APEX DRY. If your tripod’s joints start feeling sandy/gritty, open them up, give them a proper clean and lubrication and fine-tune the tension on the joints.

If travelling on dirt roads, ensure that your tripod is in its carry-bag when not in use.

Your tripod will not take care of itself – it is up to you to do so. All our tripods ship with an info-sheet on taking care of your tripod. We also offer a full tripod disassembly and service for R1000, including shipping both ways.

More about the venue & shoot

Building on our experience at Randlords in March this year, we have again booked the venue, but for a much longer time and during the best possible month of the year.

When shooting south, the angle of the sun is optimal during summer solstice as it moves far south and gives dramatic side lighting over the city. December also brings a high probability of daily thunderstorms, which promises interesting skies and clear air. High summer is the best time of the year for cityscape photography in Gauteng and we have timed this workshop carefully so that it is as close to summer solstice as possible, but before the end-of-year madness is in full swing.

After the presentations at DPC, we will have one hour to get to Randlords in order to start shooting at 17:00. With sun setting at 18:46, we will have about 1 hour of afternoon light, 1 hour of golden light/sunset, one hour of twilight/blue hour and one hour of nighttime. During the shoot, Danie and Hougaard will be available to help all participants and explain any questions you may have. A wide range of NiSi filters will be available to try, including solid ND filters, graduated ND filters, polarisers and the natural night filter.

Randlords has 56m of South-Facing deck, allowing a very large group to comfortably shoot the view towards the south. In addition to this it has a further 66m in total that looks East, West and North. The group size will be capped at 50 people, allowing plenty of space for everyone to shoot as they wish.

Carefully Selected Date

The view south from Randlords is most dramatic around summer solstice, when the sun is far South and hits the city from the side. Angle to the sun <90 degrees.

High Summer

High summer in Gauteng promises dramatic clouds and much clearer air.

On display

NiSi Filters

We will have the entire NiSi product range on display for you to feel, handle and try out during the shoot.

The day will kick off at DPC’s centurion venue where Hougaard and Danie will both present presentations on cityscape photography. Danie will focus on the fine art side of things, using long exposures to juxtapose architecture with nature. Hougaard will focus on capturing crisp, colourful images with copyspace for lucrative stock photographs. Both presentations will give an objective view on the use of filters for cityscape photography. The full NiSi filter range will be on display at DPC for all attendants to play with and see which system works best for their gear.

1st Presentation

Fine art

Danie is one of South Africa's best fine art photographers and he has a particular passion for the modern and the old architecture of Gauteng. His presentation will cover how, when and where to shoot simple and clean images that look great on a wall.

2nd presentation

Build a lucritave stock portfolio

Hougaard spent two years photographing a lucrative stock portfolio of Gauteng. His presentation will touch on what sells, how to shoot it and where to sell it.
